Mrs. Arundhati Mahadik is a household name throughout Kolhapur & adjacent districts. It is due to social activities carried out by ‘Bhaghirathi Mahila Sanstha’. After a long observation of various sections of society, specially the plight and condition of women, Mrs. Arundhati Mahadik decided to do some concrete work towards their excellence. Taking inspiration from ‘Dhananjay Mahadik Yuvashakti’, Mrs. Mahadik established ‘Bhaghirathi Mahila Sanshta’ on 23rd July 2009. Bhaghirathi has helped in grooming them and making them self-reliant. Education to illiterate women, guidance for their professional upliftment and working towards betterment of society in large and women in particular. As on today Bhaghirathi has more than 5,000 members.


Aims & Objectives of Bhaghirathi :

  • Encourage women to take lead in various forums


Bhaghirathi organizes various programs across the board for women of all ages. Regular healths check up to ensure their well being. We help & encourage them to work from home. To avail a ready market for produces made by women and self help groups by allotting them stalls free of cost at Agro exhibition and such big events.

Bhaghirathi has marked its presence and is working towards betterment of women. This movement is gaining momentum and we are confident that in a short span all the members of our organization will lead the way and show solidarity of self reliance.

Bhaghirathi Organisation :


After a long observation of various sections of society, specially the plight and condition of women, Mrs. Arundhati Mahadik decided to do some concrete work towards their excellence. Taking inspiration from ‘Dhananjay Mahadik Yuvashakti’, Mrs. Mahadik established ‘Bhaghirathi Mahila Sanstha’ on 23rd July 2009. This is a Kolhapur based NGO working at various levels for upliftment of the needy, women and children in particular. Over a period of time, Bhaghirathi has helped in grooming them and making them self-reliant.
Bhaghirathi is engaged in various social activities comprising of scholarship for under privileged school kids, Drawing competition etc. Also health awareness program for adolescent school girls is carried out all over Kolhapur & Sangli district. More than 4,000 school girls have benefited from this program. Bhaghirathi has groomed over 5,000 women with various skills & help them to gain confidence.

‘Kali Umaltana’

Girls entering the adolescence, stepping into puberty are emotionally confused about the changes in their body. Keeping this in mind, Bhaghirathi has taken up a program, ‘Kali Umaltana’. In this program, renowned Doctors, Health care experts, guide adolescent girls about these physical changes and also about care to be taken. Along with this our organization distributes Sanitary Napkins free of cost to these girls. The need and hygiene’s related to use of napkins is also elaborated. More than 50 schools and over 15,000 girls have benefited from this unique concept spearheaded by Mrs. Mahadik.

Scholarship

Education is base to betterment of society. But many a times under privileged student have to quit education due to financial constraints. Keeping in this mind, we have started a scholarship program for school students. It runs vis a vis to government level scholarship exams. It is held at Taluka & District level. This scholarship exam is for students studying in 4th & 7th standard. More than 14,000 students appear for this exam. 35 students are marked as toppers and scholarship is given to them. We are running this program from more than 9 years and we have a very good feed back with school student sharpening their brains and getting ready for bigger achievements.

Note-Book Distribution

To facilitate student coming from weaker economic background and those residing at interior parts of rural area, Bhaghirathi has started distribution of note book and school uniform. For past 6 years Bhaghirathi takes up this cause at the beginning of academic year, i.e. June. More than 25,000 students across Kolhapur district, benefit from this. Also nearly 1,500 school girls are given school uniforms. This has boosted the school attendance and minimized rate of drop outs. Bhaghirathi is keen to increase efforts in accordance to reach more and more students.

Drawing Competition



To boost creativity amongst school kids, Bhaghirathi along with Channel B organizes drawing competition, ‘Rang Umaltya Manache’ every year at a very large scale. Nearly 10,000 school children participate in this competition. This event has been hailed by all educationists and experts in art faculty. This competition is helping students to nature their creativity and follows their instincts.

Bhaghirathi regularly organizes health checkup camps for working women, household help. Along with this our organization is actively working to address needs of under privileged-needy women in particular, and they are parted with basic knowledge of papad making, preparing paper bags, candle making, beauty parlor training and other essentials, which ensures marketing of food products, prepared by the women of self help group & members of our organization.

Arundhati Mahadik has worked extensively for awareness regarding blood donation and through this organization blood donation camp are regularly organized. Bhaghirathi organizes cycle distribution to school girls. Blanket distribution to students of residential schools and needy people who have to live by road side.

Along with this mask distribution; sanskar classes various camps for upliftment of women, guidance in implementing various government schemes is carried out by our organization.
